sparklingest

This afternoon we had an IT planning workshop at the offices of BigConsultingFirm who we’re thinking of partnering with.

There were 8 people from SML there and I was the only non-male – which is currently the way of things (total sausage fest). I’m delighted my nerdish inclinations are finally paying dividends and I have some influence on Big Decisions.

We were bedazzled by BigConsultingFirm’s new offices and busted out our inner yokels to unashamedly take pix of the utterly amazing views from our meeting room. I think it is a very Sydney thing to be all too-cool-for-school and unimpressed by anything, so for us all to whip the phones out was quite something.

It was a very productive meeting and I’ve spent a bit of the evening plotting strategy and structure with Knut amd Heather. I am currently full of <3 for my job and if I could eventually wheedle my way into a DCOO** role I would be full of immense satifaction.

party on

Tomorrow night everyone in the family is heading out to watch the Ducks v Hawthorn and I will be having a glorious evening at home alone.

I plan to go wild and crazy and indulge in such activities as:
Knitting!
Reading!
Drinking tea (okay, drinking tissanes)!
Catching up on comforting television!
Possibly I might fold laundry!
I could get quite radical and do some hand washing!

What I definitely will not be doing is snacking – there has been WAY too much of that going on in recent times and while it has not yet had any affect on my size, it is bound to eventually. Need to shake myself right out of that habit  – stat! Maybe I need some jumpy exercise as soon as I arrive home rather than running straight to the snack cupboard? I think I’ll try the experiment.

need more of this sort of thing in my life

On Saurday night after the play Don and I decided to grab a wee drink before heading home, which turned into two drinks. Then we decided that because it was such a lovely winters evening, we should take a wander about the new Barangaroo parklands. We kept wandering for a couple of hours back toward the cbd until we ended up at gowings bar & grill for a pretty excellent espresso martini.

It was really excellent to explore parts of the city we don’t often get to (and one which has undergone quite a lot of changes recently). It was very much like having a little holiday.

Of course while out and about I took a bunch of very average photos – here’s a selection:

i think I ended up with 18/25 points

One of those times when you have your head stuck in a book all evening and have not even the first thought of what to write about.

Vincenzo and I (mostly Vincenzo) have re-instituted a team fitness/wellness challenge we had running about 3 years ago at SML. Back then, we started off with three of us and eventually branched out to the whole division as more people wanted in. This go-round we started with 8 and are up to 12 in week two.

The basic premise is that you select 5 activities and the number of times you plan to do those activity during the week. You then receive points for crossing off your items. It’s quite fun and a really interesting insight into what people are trying to improve – there’s a lot of water drinking and counting steps, but there are more interesting ones like read for x minutes each day, sign up for internet dating, say positive things about 5 people. The prize is a hideous trophy from the $2 shop which you get to keep on your desk for a week.

Bobs was really jazzed by this initiative and forwarded it to Corporate Comms who immediately wanted to take it over as branded, mandated, corporate fun. I kind of lost my shit with Bobs and had to stave off Comms participation for a while. This sort of thing only ever really works at a grass roots level, what on earth is it about reaching lofty heights that makes people completely lose touch?

Anyway, this week I committed to doing 100 squats per day. Day 1 and already I’m aware of muscles I didn’t know were there!

lazing

On the agenda today was a 40km+ bike ride, however our excellent hot date last night saw us arrive home well after midnight (just who are these people?), so we we’re rather disinclined to get up early and invest too much energy in anything.

We dragged ourselves out to the butcher and fruit and veg and then settled in for the day. Well, I settled in, Don went for a hit. I lazed around and read a couple of books and snoozed and it was GLORIOUS!

Back on the health train tomorrow!

quite the best kind of document tray contents

I was planning to link to a recent post about addressing my general grump, but I’m curled up in bed using the ipad and having a smidge of trouble locating it. (Oh, maybe this one?)

But, I was recently grumpish (what’s new?) and resolved to address it with increased exercise, swearing off wine and recommending writing positive/grateful and to-dos in my wee book.

I failed to do most of these things, but I am still much less grumpish. The only thing I can attribute this to is that I’ve started regularly taking vitamin d supplements, because I suspected winter and the lack of light were getting me down. I have no idea if it is acting as a placebo or not, but I’m so cheerful I am not going to mess with it.

about that opportunity

Yesterday my new team was announced to SML and today Bobs handed me my (very nice) salary letter.

There is nothing for it but …

So that ExcitingOpportunity I’ve been occasionally vague blogging about is that I’ll be heading up a small team who will facilitate turning SML upside-down, inside-out, back-to-front.

Of course there’s a longer story and a bit of rough road to get here, but I’ll save that for a wee while – primarily because I am rather chock-full of veuve.

It is very exciting and also somewhat scary.
