once every four years?

Last night a small miracle occurred – BabyKitty sat on our bed!

Not only that – she slept on the bed for the whole night. Such a thing is utterly unprecidented!

Even more amazing was that NewKitty was also asleep on the bed – they rarely get that close to one another and certainly not for such a long period.

Henceforth, June 15 will be celebrated in ThePalace(OfLove) as BabyKitty-on-the-bed day.

50before50: revisiting (again)

One of the items on my June Action Items list was to review the 50before50 list.

And so …
#2: 100km of fun runs – replacing with run a total of 700km (from 14 June 2016)
This item is now on the 3rd iteration! Given that my June run was cancelled due to inclement weather, it is extremely unlikely that I’ll get to the 100km of fun runs. To be honest, I think that was pretty unlikely even before the June run – there just aren’t that many short runs out there! 700km in 76 weeks will still be quite a stretch, but I think probably do-able without injury

#42: family laser tag or locked room activity – replacing with enter the Sydney to the Gong ride
I really want to enter this (very) challenging ride, needed an item to replace and this was it. I’m pretty sure my slothly darlings won’t be sad to see this one disappear.

There are probably a couple more that will need a good hard look at – mainly because they are not really feasible, but I’m going to hold out as long as possible before changing them. Maybe I can swing that trip to Europe with Joe/Frank? Maybe I will build a planter? And paint the 7 interior doors? Find a production of Macbeth?

I also think I need to set a hard cut-off for changes, I don’t really think it counts if I’m changing items up to the last minute, even if I set my own rules, man. I think I should cease making changes at the one-year-to-go-point, so a little time on my side – which will of course be gone before I know it.

one of *those* people

When I was searching for overlockers on eBay, back in February, I wondered how on earth individual sellers (as opposed to businesses) could actually be selling unopened, never-used machines.

Now I know – behold, under my desk:

Be assured I’m not selling it, but it remains unopened.

I think mostly I am afraid that it will be too challenging for me – which is just ridiculous, but such is my brain.

Maybe, possibly I might make opening it an Action Item for this week.

reality check

Probably pushed it a little far with the long ride today – estimated 84km. Estimated because the phone ran out of battery just after the 1/2 way point. Because we’ve been running out of fuel on these longer rides, we stopped and had a coffee and toasted sandwich just before the turn-around point. Probably this was the wrong choice for me, because while delicious, gave me heartburn and sat like a lump all the way home.

Actually I found the whole ride incredibly challenging – much more than usual. Possibly because I had a couple of wines yesterday, possibly because I’m fighting off a cold. Don on the other hand, was doing the whole: “this feels great! I feel so energised!” from beginning to end.

Afterward we had a nap and made a particularly excellent lamb shank soup.

Then I worky-worked a smidge, but probably not as much as I should have.

How can the weekend be gone already?

that ironing is not going to run away

inspirational pants.

Such a beautiful day today! I got out early and ran 5km. Which makes a total of 8km this week – I also squeezed in a quick 3km after my course on Thursday afternoon because I arrived home while it was still (barely) light. I think that would  be the longest weekly distance I’ve run in an age.

Then I pottered, made a 5:2 casserole for Tuesday night’s dinner, pottered more and then went out for a lazy lunch with my lovely husband and drank wine for the first time in over a month (straight to the head!).

Not a huge amount of other items were Actioned, but I think I’m cool with that.

We carbed it up tonight in preparation for our Giant bike ride tomorrow – a little test for a possible joint goal later in the year.

After the ride I must really do some worky-work for that thing I’ve been occasionally vague blogging about (I hope I can reveal a smidge more detail of that in July).

And then back to SML way too soon. Next public holiday is in October – I think I’m going to need some time off before that!

laydeeee

NewKitty all lovely, snuggly and relaxed this morning.

Around 39 minutes later she was much less relaxed and protesting very loundly at being carted off to the vet for a vaccination booster.

All is good and she’s put on half a kilogram since the last visit! And thankfully her very unhappy innards have settled right down – due to … slightly lower quality cat food, containing fillers and goodness knows what else. The super-expensive, super-quality food (of various brands) we’d been feeding her up to now was doing her no good at all. This seems incredibly counter intuitive, but our bank balance is pretty happy about it.

i am too healthy to get sick, i am too healthy to get sick

I’ve been on a course for 3 days this week down at the prettier end of town. I mostly worky-worked during the breaks, but I did get out on Thursday at lunch for a wee stroll and admired the sparkly harbour.

We’re about to embark on a 3 day weekend- woo hoo! I have pretty minimal plans, including:
– long bike ride
– 5km run
– take NewKitty for vaccination
– progress at least 3 items on my 50before50 list
– laze about and read a bit

I’m sure there’ll be the usual ironing and tidying &etc.

What I categorically will not be doing is getting Joe/Frank’s incredibly bad cold.

slimy #4, #5 and #6

We left off with the skin care advent calendar mid way through May.

I was using #4: algae active fluid and finding my skin becoming horribly shiny, dry and tight – enough to be uncomfortable.

I assumed this was because of the combination of new products (the ampoule + the cleanser) so stopped everything and returned to the very basics – which actually didn’t do very much. Still very dry, tight and horrid.

I think what I was attributing to changed skin-care routine is probably winter, old lady skin and dehydration. I’m a horror for drinking not enough water during the day.

With that realisation, I figured I could bust out the advent calendar again.

#5: yet more algae active fluid

I didn’t even bother using this ampoule. I found it a bit irritating and wasn’t going to risk making my skin worse … just in case.

#6: revitalizing oxygen fluid

A little less irritating – definitely firming. Milky, smells a little like hair conditioner. I’ve been using for two days and I’m not totally hating it. I’m pretty sure that I’ll be “surprised” by at least one more of these.

#1-#2 is definitely the favourite so far.
