It’s ELEVEN YEARS since our first date!

We celebrated with working late (Don) and nostalgia pizza**.

And Don bought me a ridiculously rich and indulgent (and delicious!) small cake.

** back when we lived in Glebe we used to make pizza all the time with pre-bought bases. It has to be more than 6 years since we’ve bought any (now preferring to make dough from scratch), but we spotted them and got a bit sappy and reminisce-y when grocery shopping last week. Actually surprisingly very good and made for a fairly quick dinner – the magical new oven makes an enormous difference to the results!

let’s try that again

Today was one of those days full of minor irritations and where you feel as though you’ve accomplished not a lot.

Too many meetings that went around in circles with little hope of progress, low grade annoyances from team and various colleagues, being the slowest cyclist on the face of the earth (or at least the slowwst on my route at 8:45am), phone not correctly connecting to laptop preventing me from downloading photos, Joe/Frank dropping a stack of bowls, Joan being agitated by work dramas.

On the up side I sent two documents to Bobs for review and his suggested changes were very minor – this is pretty unprecedented and a slight cause for celebration.

And I’m kicking most of my #tinygoalz – though there is room for improvement on taking pix with the DSLR (like actually start) and barely scraping in with the leave SML before dark.

#tinygoalz

In addition to meditating, eating breakfast and taking my lunch to work, each day this week I hope to:

➕ cycle to and from work
➕ decide the main thing I want to accomplish and JfDI (Just Do It) – one work, one personal
➕ leave SML before dark
➕ do one productive thing after work (instead of collapsing in a heap)
➕ attend to my ghastly fingernails
➕ take a photo with the DSLR

No big hairy audacious goals here!

today …

I made chicken stock, cooked that pie (welsh lamb), made butterscotch bars (rich, delicious and not too sweet) and peach cobbler (I wasn’t a huge fan, but everyone else loved it).
I juiced a bunch of oranges and lemons that were on their last legs and froze in 1/4 cup quantities for future carne asada marinade. Yay for avoiding food waste!

We meal planned and grocery shopped.

We ducked out to Japanese for lunch.

I watched a bunch of tiny house shows.

We booked a holiday for next year.

I booked an outing which will enable me to cross one of the items of the 50list.

I spotted a teeny baby fish in the fish tank (then lost it again and suspect it will be eaten by morning – *sad face*)

What I didn’t do was a couple of SML things that would have made Future Me happy. Oh well, Future Me likes the adrenaline that a tight deadline brings!

a conversation

Scene: SML, today around 4:30pm.

Bobs “What are you up to this evening?”

Me: “I’m watching the footy” **

Bobs: “But aren’t your husband and son in Melbourne?”

Me: “You know, I am capable of watching sport without a man around.”

** As it turns out, I probably should have chosen another option – the ducks played dreadfully and lost rather badly!

50before50: #12 no more drinking alcohol (month 10)

10 months! 304 days!

Not to get too overconfident, but I think I’ve really settled into this now.

I’m increasingly finding tasty non-alcoholic drinks are available when out and about – which I think is really helping with the comfort level.

There was only one occasion during the month where I felt I was missing out. At Sydney Contemporary you could choose from champagne, wine, beer or … water(!)**. And I really only felt deprived and pouty for a couple of minutes.

Onward!

** Completely understand that you want the punters liquored up at such an event – removes any inhibition and restraint to Buy Art!

As expected it’s been all systems go since Bobs returned from holiday yesterday.

It is going to be an intense couple of months (but when is it not?).

I’d really like to learn how to make much better use of my time at SML so I’m rather less crazy and marginally more effective. I’ve been doing a fair bit of reading on the subject but it’s probably time to test some things out.
