2012: not resolutions – joe/frank

These were Joe/Frank’s not resolutions for 2011

  1. Get an average for my subjects >80
NOT ACHIEVED – started the year extremely well and then sloth and resting-on-laurels took over

  2. Be a better guitarist
NOT ACHIEVED – the guitar has been long packed away

  3. Get my licence
NOT ACHIEVED – if only we had seen this

  4. Try and actually buy presents for birthdays/Christmas
PARTIALLY ACHIEVED – he did buy souveniers from Noumea for the other fam

  5. Prove responsibility for outings
ACHIEVED!! – been extremely trustworthy this year and good to know that his pals look out for him

==============

And this year we have:

  1. Spend less time on internet
  2. Stick to deadlines for ‘draft’ submissions and study timetables
  3. Make my French better
  4. Be less surly
  5. Be more co-ordinated

2012: not resolutions

Slightly later than usual, but as is the the usual practice around these parts, is not resolutions1 time again!

Looking back upon last year, I realise that I was planning to document our 10 year not resolutions, but that little project (like so many other projects) was a bit of a fizzer – will see if I can coerce/bribe the participants into … ermmm … participating, but somehow don’t like my chances.

1 those things we might like to vaguely consider doing during the year, but then again, no pressure if we don’t.

privilege

For the past five NYEs we’ve enjoyed the 9pm and midnight fireworks from our very wonderful balcony. And every year we see hundreds of wee heads silhouetted on Anzac Bridge as people do the same from a quite excellent vantage point.

This year I didn’t notice any silhouettes – which I attributed to a whole lotta vino and distraction caused by the NYE concert across the bay1.

Don woke up this morning with a hankering to make salade tahitienne (anything to prolong the holiday!). So this afternoon we strolled the very, very long way to the Fish Markets and encountered this:

We could not decide whether it was designed to prevent fireworks watching from non-designated areas, or to prevent NYE concert viewing (I vote the latter).

Either way, as Don commented, surprising The Man didn’t attempt to wrap our balcony.

1Tickets ranged from the ridiculous $198, to the utterly preposterous $800! We could hear and see (with the aid of our trusty spy-glass) it all perfectly.

getting there eventually

Though I’ve had my point and shoot camera for a good while now, I am only just beginning to experiment with the settings (except for the food setting which, as you will recall, was on regular rotation for the everything’s better with toast series).

Here are the results of the 9pm NYE fireworks from the balcony:

Am kicking self because tonight I discovered the beach setting on options screen 2.

Irony, Much?
