Today was forecast to be incredibly, unbelievably hot, so there was nothing for it but to watch half hourly temperature observations from the Bureau of Meteorology.
Around lunch time I decided that a table didn’t really tell the story sufficiently, so decided to make a handy-dandy chart!
I sent my chart to Don (amongst others) and he quickly responded with a screenshot of his desktop – where he had also been tracking the same data and turning it into the same chart.
Adorkable, both!
I’ve subsequently updated mine to compare the previous two days data.
As far as I can recall, the last time it was this anywhere near this hot was new year’s day 2006 when it hit 45 (ugh!). January 2012 was perfect – only a single day over 30. Such gloriously, beautifully mild weather lulls you into forgetting how disgustingly hot it can regularly become in January/February.
When we arrived home this evening, we turned on the air-conditioner in the living area for the first time ever. Holy!Goodness! It is so very marvellous – and completely worth the exhorbitant cost of having it on for the evening!
Hi, found your blog through bluebirdbaby : ) wow that is toooooo hot, makes me grateful(ish) to be enjoying 6 degrees : )
Also Life on Mars is an excellent series – I felt quite bereft when it finished!
Hi, just found your blog through bluebirdbaby : ) wow that is tooo hot, makes me grateful(ish) to be enjoying 6 degrees : )

Definitely one those days I am glad to be an office drone! It was delightfully freezing at my desk.
Just watched episode two and we’re hooked, now must overcome my terrible habit of avoiding the last episode of a series because I don’t want it to end!
I was in Sydney on the 1 January 2006 and I found the heat actually frightening being a pale skinned western European more used to summers where a hot summer day means only needing a cardigan not a coat.
Fortunately, despite the forecasts it has since been nowhere near as hot as predicted (at least in Sydney – elsewhere it has hovered around 50!).
I much prefer summer-requiring-cardigan weather!
