project 1: 2013 (film)

Don absolutely loves films and seeing them in the cinema, while I am somewhat ambivalent (love them! loathe them! no in-between!) and I am conflicted about the cinema experience: adore small theatres / would rather cut out my eyes than sit in a multiplex.

This has resulted in us vary rarely going to the movies. This makes some of us Very Sad.

The Sadness compelled us to compile a list of the movies we have ventured out to watch in the 6 years of our relationship, which has been affixed to our refrigerator.

  • An Inconvenient Truth
  • Black Dahlia
  • The Departed
  • Transformers
  • Casino Royale
  • The September Issue
  • Sherlock Holmes
  • Catfish
  • Arbitrage
All of which (sans two) were all quite excellent. I will leave the sans as an exercise for the reader.

Today, at Don’s request, we had a movie date and saw skyfall – which I completely and utterly LOATHED (don’t even get me started).

But, despite the loathing, it made me realise that we’re now 10 or 30 minutes walk from two excellent independent cinemas. And we should take advantage of this.

So, I’ve bought Donaldo a year’s membership to both cinemas (cheap tix!) and we’ve agreed that we should attend two films a month – no matter how potentially ghastly.

At the very least should be bondly!

  1. Flashman and I committed to 1 movie per month back in 2008, and still continue it today. Occasionally due to poor planning we’re forced to see a less than stellar movie on the 30th of the month, but at least we haven’t missed a month yet.

  2. Helloooooooo!

That is a very impressive effort, is so hard to force ourselves to get out of the haus once safely ensconced and away from the horrors of work.

Already I am regretting committing to fortnightly and am thinking maybe monthly would be easier to manage – or maybe 6-monthly.

  3. Oh dear I go once or twice a year – mostly to take a child to see Harry Potter or some such thing – other half will not go to the cinema so we have never ever had a movie date outside of our own home! Not sure I could cope with going out into real public twice a month! Anyway, I came here because I was about to email you and discovered I do not have your email address on this laptop – the other one died and went to heaven (taking with it 2 years of photos and videos of my children that I, being stupid.stupid.stupid did not back up – despite my telling everyone else to do so!!!) sooo, could you please just send me an email when you can so that I may reply?
