In recent years there has been a really very perplexing trend toward branding all manner of supermarket merchandise with Australian Flags for Australia Day: paper towels, crackers, tinned corn¹ and hundreds of similar items which don’t really seem all that festive or celebratory. I mean, I maybe understand the crackers, but why paper towels, or corn?

The number of products seem to increase exponentially each year – by 2019 I anticipate every product in the supermarket will have Australian-flag packaging.

I thought it had reached the pinnacle of strangeness, but clearly I don’t get out enough:

Your eyes do not deceive you, they are indeed Australian flag themed disposable nappies.
