From the Herald letters page today:
… With Mr Heaton’s policy, private school fees would rise between 30 per cent and 70 per cent. This would cause about 70 per cent of the children to be transferred to the public sector.
Their parents are already making considerable sacrifices to meet present fees: mothers working and no decent holidays for years. This would land the states with an additional $3 billion bill every year, so you will still be paying through increased state taxes.
Considerable sacrifices?? Gods forbid that darling mumsy would have to lower herself by associating with the working classes! And how perfectly ghastly to have to spend one’s annual skiing holiday in Thredbo rather than Aspen or Gstaad! I truly feel their pain.
