2013 not resolutions: joan

And in the grand family tradition of putting things off until one can no longer avoid them, Joan’s Not Resolutions.

Firstly, let’s review 2012:

  1. Pass all Law subjects
ACHIEVED: it is a continuing mystery how she manages to leave assignments and exam prep to the last possible second and still do well

  2. Have a more healthy diet / cook more
PARTIALLY ACHIEVED: certainly very much better than at the beginning of the year, but still occasional lapses into the horribly unhealthy

  3. Shed pounds
NOT ACHIEVED: but finally stopped paying the excessive gym fees to not actually attend the gym

  4. Be less neurotic
NOT ACHIEVED: oh my! So very not achieved

  5. Broaden horizons (try new things and whatever)
ACHIEVED: another big trip to Europe and several other bits and pieces

And for 2013:

  1. Repay personal loan in 2012/13 financial year
  2. Be less neurotic
  3. Healthier lifestyle
  4. Expand hobbies + interests
  5. Determine future education + career goals

2013 not resolutions: bessie

And, after a couple of gentle reminders, Bessie is up next.

Bessie’s 2012 not resolutions:

  1. do more crafty projects
PARTIALLY ACHIEVED: only if you consider desperately completing practical assessment work at the last minute

  2. spend less time on the Internet
NOT ACHIEVED: just like the rest of us, so very very very not achieved

  3. have a more broad cooking range/ harder
NOT ACHIEVED: there was a good deal of cooking, just not a great deal of divergence from the old favourites

  4. read more
ACHIEVED: regularly to be found with head in a book

  5. do reasonably well in all my subjects
PARTIALLY ACHIEVED: doing a good deal better in the first term of year 12 after some very ordinary year 11 results

And for 2013:

  1. Achieve an atar 80+
  2. Be proud of my major works
  3. Have a fulfilling year and take every opportunity as it is my last year at school
  4. Take more photos
  5. Be more social

exercise 2013: week one(a)

Week one is rapidly drawing to a close and I had yet to embark on any exercise at all. Saturday morning yoga was out because Don left for golf at some ungodly hour and the yoga studio is quite time-consuming to get to via public transport1. So running it was!

It has been many months since I was last out (27 September, according to my super-fantastic sportstracker app) and I intended to put No Pressure on myself to do anything more than sporadically jog. I also took a new, gentler route which was primarily flat, punctuated by the occasional gentle incline.

2.77km | 22:50

I really surprised myself – 2km of actual running was infinitely better than I could have hoped. Though I think I will be paying for it over the next few days.

I need another exercisely activity for tomorrow. Surely painting counts? After painting the laundry I discovered muscles I’d long since forgotten I have.

1I’m thinking of borrowing Bessie’s bicycle to see if biking there is do-able. I’d use Don’s, but he has crazy-long legs and I can’t touch the ground without potentially impaling myself on the cross-bar.
